When he agreed to guard her, he never bargained on having to guard his heart.
Brilliant scientist Linnea Newberry is on the adventure of a lifetime, traveling the Santa Fe Trail with her grandfather, Dr. Powell, on a botanical expedition to Colorado Territory. She longs to be valued for her contributions and not seen as a helpless liability. But at every calamity she faces, her grandfather threatens to send her home.
After watching his ma suffer and die in childbirth, Flynn McQuaid has sworn off women and marriage forever. Headed west to start a new life, he has his hands full not only taking care of his younger siblings but also delivering cattle to his older brother. He doesn’t need more complications.
When Flynn rescues Linnea from drowning during a river crossing, Dr. Powell promptly hires Flynn—unbeknownst to Linnea—to act as her bodyguard for the rest of the trip. As Flynn fights against the many dangers of the trail, he soon finds himself in the greatest danger of all—falling for a woman he’s determined not to love.
I LOVED the first Colorado Cowboy book and couldn’t put it down and read it within 24 hrs. This book I didn’t feel that pull. it’s a sweet love story, took longer than I would’ve liked for things to be settled.
Two strangers on the trail out West find themselves thrown together. Really it’s Linnea who finds herself fallen into water and Flynn dives in to save her. So her first encounter with Flynn is meeting his broad chest. 😍 She’s helping her grandfather catalog plants. Flynn is helping his brother Wyatt by bringing him cows to his new farm in Colorado.
This book has forced proximity, bodyguard trope, strong independent women/more progressive for the time, some lusting (while a clean Christian book did focus on this a bit), action, small touch of faith and stealing kisses.
Flynn had past trauma he needed to overcome, let go and forgive others. Linnea had to determine what her priorities would be.
Towards the end, it was getting frustrating to keep reading about how they moped for each other but was too prideful to do anything about it. I’m intrigued by Brody’s story next. It better have Judd in the next book! I just want more of Wyatt’s family 😂
