Book description:

In the early days of World War II, the Lang family lost everything. Eighty years later, it’s time to take it back.

The Nazis have taken control of Austria, and wealthy widower Leopold Lang faces a difficult decision: join the ranks of the foreign power that has taken over his homeland or flee with his children to safety. Leopold makes his choice—but too late. His family is ripped apart, never to be reunited. But decades later, fate brings together the descendants of this broken dynasty in the place where it all began—Falcon Point.

Anna, Cole, and Tess have never met, each relying on fractured pieces of information to understand their Austrian heritage. But when unforeseen opportunities draw these Lang cousins to Falcon Point, they soon discover they are not alone in their quest to claim the coveted property and the fabled treasure hidden within. Unfortunately, another claimant, one with a much darker heritage, is determined to eliminate the Lang family once and for all.

About the Authors:

Traci Hunter Abramson was born in Arizona, where she lived until moving to Venezuela for a study-abroad program. After graduating from Brigham Young University, she worked for the Central Intelligence Agency for several years, eventually resigning in order to raise her family. She credits the CIA with giving her a wealth of ideas as well as the skills needed to survive her children’s teenage years. She is a seven-time Whitney Award winner and has written more than thirty bestselling novels.

Paige Edwards is an award-winning author and a Readers’ Favorite finalist. She holds a degree in interior design and has worked professionally in that field. Due to her deep British roots, Paige’s books are often set in the UK, and she hops the pond whenever she gets the chance. She is styled the Lady Paige Edwards when in Scotland, but her favorite title is Grandma. When she needs a break from writing, she serves as president of her areas Interfaith Community Council, is fond of digging in the dirt (what some might call gardening), biking battlefields, and kayaking on the lake. Paige is a member of ACFW, ANWA, and the Storymakers Guild.

A.L. Swords : I love books, so that makes Goodreads my favorite social media site. As a reader, I enjoy a variety of books. As a writer, I create historical novels with a wholesome mix of action, adventure, and romance. My stories include a Whitney Award winner, several Whitney finalists, and a Gold Medal winner in the Readers’ Favorite Book Awards.

I’m a wife and a mother of three, and I’ve called Washington State, Utah, and Alaska home. I’m usually reading a couple books at once and working on multiple writing projects too. Other than that, my life is pretty ordinary. I’m grateful for that. I’ll let the characters in my books have all the adventures.

Sian Ann Bessey was born in Cambridge, England, but grew up on the island of Anglesey off the coast of North Wales. She left her homeland to attend Brigham Young University in Utah, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in English.
She began her writing career as a student, publishing several magazine articles while still in college. Since then she has published historical romance and romantic suspense novels, along with a variety of children’s books. She is a USA Today best selling author and a Whitney Award finalist.
Although Sian doesn’t have the opportunity to speak Welsh very often anymore, she can still wrap her tongue around, “Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.” She loves to travel and experience other cultures, but when she’s home, her favorite activities are spending time with her family, cooking, and reading.

My review:

This book was so fun! Mystery, suspense and romance! It starts off in Austria in the 1940s. World War II and Hitler’s reach is seeping into Austria. Leopold Lang helped decode codes in WWI and now his one time friend, now a Nazi officer, comes knocking for his help. Leopold has a few options left.
The action and suspense sucked me in right away! The Lang children narrowly escaped the manor but their journey for freedom is just beginning. I can’t imagine the terror and heartache they felt the rest of their lives, by the Nazi’s actions. And how it took generations to amend.
Present day, the heirs of Leopold Lang are living their carefree lives knowing nothing of the past. Many events change their lives in a short amount of time. Who can they trust? Codes, puzzle pieces and keys fall into place.
I’m astonished that 4 separate authors worked on this because it’s seamless, one voice and no indication that the prose was different.
There has to be more, right?! It was satisfying but I want more! This is the first book I’ve read by some of the authors but I will be looking at other books they’ve written and eagerly waiting for any word of a sequel!
Content: fighting, mild fear and suspense of attackers, murder
I received an e-arc from the publisher and Net Galley. These are my own thoughts and opinions.
