I had been seeing this book going around on IG and I knew I had to find out what it was all about. It was so fun!!
Finlay is a hot mess. Really – divorced and a struggling writer – Finlay can barely keep her life together. As it is, Finlay’s daughter Delia cuts some of her hair off and Finlay attaches it back to Delia’s head with duct tape 😂 per her daughter’s instructions.
While telling her agent her sob story of being behind with deadlines, a mysterious note falls into Finlay’s bag. Someone wants to hire her to kill someone. But she writes suspense novels, she doesn’t actually know how to do it.
What happens since is a comedic mystery of how does Finlay get out of this mess. I couldn’t stop reading-listening and the audiobook is 👌🏼
Finlay is a strong character even though life around her is hectic. She’s pizza and sweats and learns trying to be other people while in disguise just complicates things. She’s a good person who tries to do the right thing when it’s so complicated and twisted.
I can’t wait to see another book will be coming out because that epilogue left a huge cliffhanger! And I can’t wait to hang out more with Finlay and Vero. Oh and as I was listening to this book, it made me think of Netflix’s “Dead To Me” show which has similarities to them. Single women who happen to find a dead body and then has to figure out what to do with it.
This did contain language. Small mention of closed door romance there’s barely a door.
Finlay Donovan is killing it . . . except, she’s really not. She’s a stressed-out single-mom of two and struggling novelist, Finlay’s life is in chaos: the new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.
When Finlay is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer, and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet . . . Soon, Finlay discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart, as she becomes tangled in a real-life murder investigation.
Fast-paced, deliciously witty, and wholeheartedly authentic in depicting the frustrations and triumphs of motherhood in all its messiness, hilarity, and heartfelt moment, Finlay Donovan Is Killing It is the first in a brilliant new series from YA Edgar Award nominee Elle Cosimano.
